Description
This property is a dramatic Edwardian Church with a unique architecture and construction. Seating over 600 people it has an apparently unsupported balcony. Unusually for a Methodist Church it also has elaborate woodwork and stained glass. This Grade II* listed Edwardian chapel was built for the Wesleyan Methodists 1902-1905. It was designed by Commin, a local architect, and constructed by a French contractor, Paul Cottincin, who used reinforced brickwork and dressings of precast concrete, a unique form of construction. The building has recently been completely renovated.
