Description

Probably the site of the first church in Ipswich. Present building dates from 14th century, enlarged in 1870s. A rare and massive 12th century Tournai font bowl in black marble from Flanders. Currently leased to the Ipswich Hospital Band who have received a Heritage Lottery Grant to convert the redundant church into a Heritage Centre, rehearsal and concert venue. This is also the home of the Ipswich Charter Hangings. These eight magnificent embroidered panels, designed by Isabel Clover, depict Ipswich from Anglo-Saxon times to the present day. There will also be a Edith Maude Cook exhibition, the first female aviator, born in Ipswich
