Description
Built 1880 as West Cliff Saloon; soon became centre of theatre in Whitby. Patronised in early days by many notables including Sir Henry Irving, Gerald du Maurier and Bram Stoker. This event offers rare chance to see some wonderful Victorian architecture. Exhibition presents colourful history of theatre in Whitby. Guided tour behind the scenes to restricted access areas, with well preserved original features. During tour pupils of Paul Nicholas School of Acting help bring theatre to life.
Directions
Access road to theatre descends from Cook Memorial at eastern end of West Cliff. Car parking (Pay and Display) on access road or West Cliff, or seafront (free).

BUS - Access road to theatre from Cook Memorial may be reached via circular routes of town Tour Buses from many points of Whitby and by circular route of the steam bus from many points on the West side of Whitby.
Opening Times
Sunday 12th September: 1300-1530, Tours every 15 mins from 1315-1500 lasting approx 30 mins.
Pre-Booking Required
Visitors wishing to join a tour must register on arrival (first-come-first-served!) and receive a numbered ticket.
Access
PDA - The Complex, including the public areas of the theatre, has full Wheelchair Access, but the tour behind the scenes will not be wheelchair accessible.
Additional Information
Visitor numbers on each tour limited to max 12. No limitation on numbers for visiting exhibition. Pavilion Cafe open.
