Church Lane, Wintringham, Malton, North Yorkshire, YO17 8HU
Description
An artistic feast with a display of work by local artists and a photographic exhibition of historic churches cared for by The Churches Conservation Trust presented by York Camera Club, based in the exceptional medieval church of St Peter. With barbershop quartet on one of the days. This church in Wintringham, North Yorkshire is thought to be post-Conquest as there is no mention of a church in the Domesday book. The earliest part of the church is the Norman chancel with its priest's door and corbel table. The nave and west tower are of the 14th century. Externally the tower has crenellated parapets and Perpendicular tracery of the 15th century. The west tower and octagonal spire dominate the graveyard that is filled with 18th & 19th century monuments to the former inhabitants of this sleepy village. Inside the Jacobean bench pews and hexagonal oak pulpit are a delight.
