Cragside, Rothbury, Northumberland, NE65 7PX
Trip the light fantastic to the home where modern living began. Lord and Lady Armstrong used their wealth, art and science in a most ingenious way, and Cragside house was the first in the world to be lit by hydroelectricity – making it a wonder of the Victorian age. Outside, their shared passion for landscaping and gardening was daring and engineered on a spectacular scale. There are towering North American conifers and great drifts of rhododendrons, as well as rocky crags and tumbling water. The house is one of the finest examples of Arts and Crafts workmanship in the country. Children can enjoy the adventure Play Area, Trim Trail, Labyrinth and family walks/trails.
