When the Zeppelins first drifted across the sky of Hull, no one really knew what to expect. The Zeppelins had a very distinctive sound, they were of mammoth proportions and on a clear night it was sometimes even possible to see the crew working in the gondolas. On the 16th June, 1915 strong winds prevented Kapitan Leutnant Mathey reaching London, so after following the railway lines from Bridlington, he guided the Zeppelin towards Hull. War on a scale never before imagined had arrived in Kingston Upon Hull. Twenty four people lay dead with forty houses and shops destroyed.

This event took place in September 2014 and the entry is now archived.
