Museum of Dartmoor Life, 3 West Street, Okehampton, Devon, EX20 1HQ

Free entry to this fascinating museum which tells the story of 5000 years of human activity on Dartmoor from prehistory to 20th century farming. Extending over three floors, the collection and interactive displays bring to life "the people's story" for visitors of all ages. Highlights include a reconstructed Bronze Age hut, Victorian kitchen, blacksmith's shop and farming exhibits. Learn about traditional Dartmoor industries such as glassmaking, quarrying and rural crafts. Specially for Heritage Open Days guided tours explore the lives of Dartmoor people in the 19th and early 20th centuries including the tin miner, blacksmith, railway worker, farmer and Victorian cottage dweller.

The museum is a great place to bring the kids. Now we need families to help us plan a museum makeover so we can show more of the stories you want to see. Throughout Heritage Open Days join in the Museum Makers Quest and tell us what displays you like & what needs to change .

This event took place in September 2015 and the entry is now archived.
