Standen, West Hoathly Road, East Grinstead, West Sussex, RH19 4NE
Standen is an Arts & Crafts gem, hidden in the Sussex countryside. Built by architect Phillip Webb in the 1890s, Standen was the family home of wealthy solicitor James Beale and his wife Margaret. Visit the house to see the beautiful Morris & Co. interiors and discover a day in the life of the Beale family in the 1920s. Enjoy our beautiful gardens, stretching over 12 acres of hillside. A four year garden restoration project is underway - find out more about this through talks and tours and a display in the Potting Shed. Stroll in our two ancient woodlands, now even more accessible due to the installation of boardwalks. Fill an explorer bag from the Apple Store and follow one of Barton, Betty or Phyllis's trails around the estate. Enjoy our Plantation play area at the top of the garden. Discover the Little Room, where the Beale children used to play. Baby changing facilities available. Children's meals in the cafe.
This event took place in September 2013 and the entry is now archived.
We have wheelchairs available for hire. The house is accessible to wheelchairs downstairs.
