The Abbey will open to the public, as usual, during the four day Heritage Open Days event, plus there will be an opportunity to gain access to the High Altar area where you can see the consecration crosses and view the nave from behind the Altar a view usually only enjoyed by the priests. Enjoy tours of the Sacristy between 13.00 and 17.00 on Saturday 14 September, when the Abbey was a monastery the Sacristy was the Abbey’s stronghold and the Sacristan or Treasurer lived in the room above, now the Upper Room. The space is now a small chapel used for private prayer and some services. For details of Tour Tours on offer during the event please ring ahead on 01684 850959. This is a unique opportunity to visit the highest point in Tewkesbury to enjoy the panoramic views and gain a bird’s eye view of this beautiful medieval town.
