Hull History Centre, Worship Street, Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, HU2 8BG

Local historian Dr. John Markham has long been fascinated in Hull's colourful characters and one of these is Zachariah Charles Pearson - a story of rise and fall which rivals anything in fiction. At a young age Pearson made his name in shipping, earning the jealousy of older-established men. To crown his first term as Mayor of Hull he donated the park which bears his name. Then everything went spectacularly wrong - he lost his fleet, went bankrupt and had to resign as Mayor. But, whatever his faults and misfortunes, he did provide Hull with a splendid park.

This event took place in September 2015 and the entry is now archived.
