Hull History Centre, Worship Street, Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, HU2 8BG

Jill Crowther will tell the intriguing and amusing tale of a case heard in the Dublin Courts, which caused a frenzy of media interest throughout the land. John Thelwall lived in Hull and the family home played an important part in the events leading up to the 1861 case involving bigamy and intrigue, centred on the two most colourful characters, Carlo Yelverton and Theresa - the woman who was, or was not, his wife! There were daily briefings , press coverage with verbatim accounts of the court proceedings and portraits and ballads sold on the street corners. Curious sightseers fought for seats in the Dublin court.

This event took place in September 2014 and the entry is now archived.
