In this talk, Alex Codd, Chief Planning Officer of Hull City Council will describe this street in the heart of Hull's medieval Old Town and its development as the home to several major clearing banks and major retailers such as Woolworths, Marks and Spencer and Burton the Tailors, interspersed with small businesses and coffee houses. Alex will examine how this important street evolved over time, the impact of the development of the major new shopping facilities and the challenges and opportunities which are now presented as it redefines its role in the life of the city.
