On 2 December 2011, the new Heritage Open Days Advisory Group will convene for the first time. And you could be part of it!
Since its inception, Heritage Open Days has been thriving on the enthusiasm and expertise of local organisers and volunteers. Partnership work across organisations and sector boundaries has always been essential to the success of the event. As a new partnership of the National Trust, Heritage Alliance and Civic Voice is about to take over the national co-ordination, listening to the voice of those organising Heritage Open Days on the ground will be as crucial as ever.
To ensure organiser participation in planning the national event, we are recruiting four organiser representatives to the newly formed Advisory Group, doubling the previous number of organiser members. Chaired by Crispin Truman, Chief Executive of The Churches Conservation Trust and Heritage Alliance Trustee, the Group will provide feedback and insight to advise on the programme’s delivery through to 2014. For more information about the group’s purpose, please read the Terms of Reference.
If you are a registered Heritage Open Days organiser with the vision and ambition to help shape the annual delivery of the scheme, you can now apply to become a member of the Advisory Group.
How to become part of the Advisory Group:
- Complete the nomination form and return it by Wednesday 19 October 2011, 5pm.
- Applicants will be selected on the basis of the different assets they would bring to the Group: their interests, experience, specialist knowledge, the role within and their relationship to Heritage Open Days.
- Successful applicants will be informed at the end of October and invited to attend the inauguration meeting on 2 December 2011.
- The first meeting will be an all-day meeting from 11am to 4pm and be devoted to the evaluation of this year’s edition of Heritage Open Days and the planning of the 2012 cycle.
- Travel expenses will be paid.
The role would suit someone who:
- Has registered one or more events with Heritage Open Days: individuals, council staff or civic society members who have opened up a site or co-ordinated a larger programme in their community.
- Has an interest in and/or a more in-depth knowledge of an area relevant to the delivery of Heritage Open Days (e.g. PR & marketing, tourism, access, volunteering, evaluation, fundraising).
- Can commit to a two-year term of office and attending three meetings per year in London.
- Is prepared to read and comment on reports, minutes and other communications circulated to the Group.
- Is willing to act as an ambassador of Heritage Open Days among their networks, and potentially as a mentor to fellow organisers.
Application has now closed.
