SuperHomes are older homes that have been refurbished to the highest standards of energy efficiency – resulting in greater comfort, significantly lower running costs and a reduction in carbon emissions (in this case a 93% reduction).
SuperHome Open Days showcase today's technologies providing a touch and feel experience for visitors. They also let visitors see for themselves the challenges and the financial and environmental savings to be had from making the change. Measures we have installed in our 1958 bungalow include a wood pellet boiler, 3.42 kWp photovoltaic solar panels, a solar thermal panel to heat water, LED light bulbs, a basin that drains into the toilet cistern, as well as insulation, double and triple glazing.
Visitors can expect to come away with plenty of ideas for greening their own properties.
This year is the 10th year of SuperHomes, and to celebrate we’ve partnered with the Ecology Building Society who are supporting this year’s September openings.

Access Information
The house is fairly wheelchair accessible, although some parts may be inaccessible if you have a larger chair. There is a ramp, and one toilet is fairly accessible. There will be an over-the-toilet wheelchair or commode available if required - just ask one of the helpers. Some of the helpers have a very basic level of sign language knowledge.
Additional information
Max 35 people per tour/session. What visitors say:
“The sink over the cistern is a fantastic space saving & water saving idea. Overall so many ideas to prompt decisions on making my home more green and great idea to have refills available.”
"My young daughter and I really enjoyed the tour and the interactive elements like the puzzle and chance to upcycle some waste plastic into plectrums and a decorative flower (now in our living room)… Wonderful hosts and a great source of information and inspiration."
Directions
St Denys Close is quite small, it looks like a driveway and is only marked from one direction. Coming from the A417 Wantage-Faringdon road, turn into the High Street opposite the garage (last turning from Faringdon, first from Wantage). Look out for St Denys Close on the left. It's a little way after Spencers Close.
Please park elsewhere if possible, to save the available spaces for those with limited walking ability. Thank you.
