Micro-grants

This year we're delighted to be piloting a new micro-grants scheme to support greater diversity across the festival.

Earlier this year we ran two application rounds for both existing and new organisers offering: a 1-2-1 support session with a member of our team and £350 to deliver an event for this year's festival.

The grants are intended to support people from under-represented backgrounds to participate in the festival and / or the creation of new events that highlight stories not currently well represented across the festival.

What's happening this year?

Look out for exciting new events exploring under-represented histories including:

  • Liverpool's hidden queer history.
  • Disability and protest in the Suffragette movement.
  • Native Americans who came to England.
  • The role of South Asian seafarers.
  • Romany Gypsy traditions and local connections.
Who's involved?

Congratulations to this year's grant recipients who include:

All Saints Church, Spofforth | Believe in Me CIC | El Parnaso Hyspano | Footprints Forward with HKers and Locals CIC | Friends of March Railway Station | Kent Museum of Freemasonry | Leicester Transport Heritage Trust | Museum of Homelessness | Newcastle Deaf Centre | Newtimber Church | Pankhurst Centre | Queer at Last | Steam Tug Brent Trust | The Global Majority Collective | The Moot Hall, Maldon | The New Ashgate Gallery Trust | We are the Iroko CIC

What next?

We hope to offer similar grants next year (funding permitted). Sign up to our newsletter to be the first to know about future opportunities.

* Note on terms used

Global Majority: We recognise not everyone uses the term 'Global Majority' as it is only one of the many evolving terms describing racialised communities. For example, some other terms used are; Minority Ethnic, People of Colour, Visible Minority Ethnic, Black and Asian minoritised backgrounds, BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour), and BAME (Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic).
