What a whirlwind! It’s been a VERY busy winter, but all the hard work is starting to blossom as our festival cycle kicks into gear with the Spring. Having moved office and built a new database on top of usual festival business, we are now emerging from our backstage bubble so it’s time to share some stories! Grab a cuppa and take 5 with us for an update.

This year Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens hosted a special Pride Party interwoven with the traditional craft of proggy. This innovative event was co-created with young people as long term festival participants, Sunderland Culture, joined our New Wave programme.

This year’s festival began in unexpected Summer heat and ended in Autumn rain, but the odd weather didn’t wilt or dampen festival spirits. Our largest community of local organisers ever set up 5,282 events; ranging from big open days at sites like the BFI National Archive, and exclusive tours of hidden places such as Burnley Empire, to video shorts about the arts of the inland waterways.
