Bettany Hughes joins Heritage Open Days !

There’s nothing we love more here at HODs HQ than having something really juicy to announce. . .and news doesn’t come much bigger than this!  Award-winning historian, author and broadcaster Bettany Hughes joins Heritage Open Days as Patron in 2017, bringing her passion, knowledge and enthusiasm for British history to the cause.

'I love the fact that every time any of us walks down the street we are in two times at once,” says Bettany. “The power and fascination of history is all around. Heritage Open Days is the most brilliant way of turning this wealth into shared treasure and not a hoard. I am truly delighted and honoured to be involved.”

Bettany is best-known for her television work, focusing on different periods and aspects of history, from the Roman Invasion of Britain to Divine Women, which explored the lives of powerful religious woman though the centuries.  Alongside her television series, she has a long career as an academic historian and her latest book, Istanbul: A Biography, is already a Sunday Times bestseller.
