78 Derngate - The Charles Rennie Mackintosh House
78-82 Derngate, Northampton, Northamptonshire, NN1 1UH
The only Mackintosh house outside Scotland and his last architectural project, 78 Derngate offers visitors a guided tour round this ordinary Georgian terraced house, made extraordinary with Mackintosh's visionary genius. Commissioned by local businessman, WJ Bassett-Lowke, in 1916 the house was truly transformed. Four flights of stairs take visitors through basement kitchen to top floor study as the guide tells the story of the two men responsible for this hidden gem - now an award-winning, accredited museum. With original features and fantastic replicas the visit will reveal astonishing design and iconic interiors, plus lots of Bassett-Lowke models and memorabilia!
