Gustaf Adolfs Kyrka, the Nordic church in Liverpool, is a Grade II* listed building. Dating from 1883, it is a functioning Lutheran Church, with services normally at least twice a month. However it is also much more. As a Cultural Centre for the Nordic community and other local organisations, it hosts numerous events, including coffee mornings, a handicraft group, and concerts and is also used for practice by choirs and other performing artists.. Heritage Open Day visitors will have the opportunity to buy cake and coffee and decide for themselves if this reputation is justified.
The community almost lost the building some seventeen years ago and had to fight hard over a period of 3 years to prevent it from being sold. It makes an interesting story.
It is an unusual building, being on three floors and as there is no lift, visitors must be prepared to negotiate several stairs.
