A Church through Time: People in the life of St Thomas Musbury

Open - Saturday 19 September, 10am to 4pm. All events except the 2pm walk start within the church.
Mouse Trail for children between 10am and 4pm. Explore the building and the church mice who keep it in order.
Adult church building tour - 12 noon. The church, 1850, is described by Pevsner as perfectly illustrating the CofE's structures and tradition.
Graveyard tour, from bootleg whisky distillers to textile manufacturers; 2pm.
Talk - 'A Church and its People through Time': characters and stories from community life. Expect Rose Queens, endless parades and whip rounds, cooperation and dissent. 11am and 3pm
C19th Musbury (Helmshore) Walk: Gather 2pm at the Helmshore Textile Museum main doors (listen out for their tannoy announcement). In keeping with their focus on life and work in 1826 and 1850, the Museum is collaborating with us. A guided walk through 19th century Musbury will lead you to the Church via important historical locations like Middle Mill, scene of the 1826 power loom breaking, a temperance social club, the 1847 railway and more. You will arrive in time for the talk about the church's history at 3pm. (Your return to the Museum will be after it formally closes at 4pm, but there will be no problem with picking up vehicles left in their car park.) Everyday footwear, hill.
Car parking at the Church is on street (Helmshore Road) but generous. The R2 Vision Bus service to and from Haslingden and Rawtenstall runs 2-hourly.
