Have you ever passed the elegant Grove House in Dunstable and wondered what’s inside? On Saturday, 13th September 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., you’ll have a rare chance to explore this historic gem during a special open day.
Built in the 1700s and now a Grade II-listed building, Grove House has served as a private residence, a school, and now Dunstable’s civic headquarters. Visitors can enjoy guided tours, admire its neoclassical architecture, and hear stories from its rich past.
Highlights include access to the Council Chamber, usually closed to the public, and a chance to meet the Mayor of Dunstable in the Mayor’s Chamber. Don’t miss the gallery of past Mayors, showcasing over a century of civic pride.
Costumed interpreters, including “Miss Beeby,” will bring the building’s school days to life. Rita Swift from the History Society will be on hand to discuss the archives housed within Grove House.
Downstairs, local groups such as Friends of Priory House, Historical Dunstable, and Dunstable Charities will present exhibitions. In the Wedding Room, Dunstable Heritage Textiles will unveil a new display marking key anniversaries, including 40 years of the Town Council and 80 years since VE Day.
The event is free and open to all ages. While the upper floor isn’t wheelchair accessible, ground floor activities are fully inclusive. Whether you're a local or a visitor, come and experience Dunstable’s heritage firsthand!
