A journey through the architectural transformation of Hyde Abbey
St Bartholomew's Church, King Alfred Place, Winchester, Hampshire, SO23 7DF
This tour will explain the history of Hyde Abbey, comprising a large complex of buildings that once stood to the north of the city walls of Winchester. Lead by Francesca Sluman of Hyde900 and Dr Helen Lawrence-Beaton of ADAM Architecture, the walk will include key sites associated with the Abbey precinct whilst explaining how the buildings were gradually dismantled after the dissolution of the Monasteries, and the building stones absorbed into the local buildings of Hyde. The tour will culminate in a visit to Old Hyde House, now the offices of ADAM Architecture, where many of the stones from the former abbey were reused and are still visible today.
Refreshments will be available after the tour at the nearby church of St Bartholomew in Hyde, for a donation.
