A Village through time

Garstang Road, Broughton, Preston, Lancashire, PR3 5JB

  • Multiple dates available
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

A guided walk taking in the main buildings, people and events that have shaped this rural village.

Broughton in Amounderness is mentioned in the doomsday book. This walk takes us back to when the Roman's, the Jacobite's and the Cavalier's came through the village. It tells the tale of the occupants of "virgins row", the fire HQ and the Georgian cottages. It is a village that serviced the local area with saddlers, blacksmiths, dressmakers, cobblers and many more tradesmen. It was a village on a Toll Road with coaching inns and a pinfold. A village with an old parish church and a graveyard steeped in history.

This walk is over approximately 1.5 miles on fairly flat pavements. BBQ available from 1430, brew available all afternoon and for non-walkers at the Toll Bar Cottage, 476 Garstang Road.
Leaflets for this and other self-guided walks are available at the cottage
