Additional information

Who Was Abdullah Quilliam? Sheikh Abdullah Quilliam (born William Henry Quilliam, 1856–1932) was a British convert to Islam, lawyer, scholar, and community leader who founded Britain’s first functioning mosque and Islamic centre in Liverpool in 1889. Originally a solicitor from a Christian background, Quilliam embraced Islam in 1887 after a life-changing visit to Morocco. On his return to England, he dedicated himself to Islamic education and outreach. He established a mosque, school, and printing press at 8–10 Brougham Terrace, which became a spiritual and intellectual hub for Muslims.
