Acorn Bank Watermill
Acorn Bank, Temple Sowerby, Penrith, Cumbria, CA10 1SP
Come down and see the 19th Century Watermill in action, and hear the stories of the people who lived and worked on the estate, including both the watermill and the gypsum mine. We will be selling our wholemeal flour fresh from the mill, and we will have samples of baked produce for you to try, showing the range of produce you can make from this versatile foodstuff.
You can also learn from the millers all about the progress in our project to restore the second waterwheel, and to bring it back to life after a lapse of nearly 100 years. To celebrate this moment, the National Trust are supporting us by offering free access to the estate over the weekend of 19th and 20th of September 2026.
Have a go at making flour with a hand quern, the way our ancestors did, or show your artistic talents on our Art Table.

The upper Information Room and the Kiln Room are fully accessible for wheelchairs and mobility scooters. However, there are steep steps into the mill yard, which is cobbled. This may present some access difficulties for the less mobile.
