Agecroft Cemetery Tour
Agecroft Cemetery, Langley Road, Pendlebury, Salford, Greater Manchester, M27 8SS
In the final years of the nineteenth century Salford Corporation planned a second civic cemetery at Agecroft, Pendlebury on land purchased for £27,000 from Robert Dauntesey of Agecroft Hall. Opened in July 1 903 and initially known as the Salford Northern Cemetery, the 45 acres included Anglican, Roman Catholic (now lost) and Non-Conformist chapels alongside an office, gatehouse and imposing entrance gateway, several of which are Grade II listed. The tour of Salford's Agecroft Cemetery will cover the history of the cemetery, its architectural features and notable burials including the re-internments from the New Jerusalem Temple. There will be an opportunity to visit the crematorium, adapted from the former Non-Conformist chapel, view the interior of the newly refurbished cemetery office with its original features and see some of the registers relating to common graves. An information pack will be made available to those attending the walk.

As there is limited shelter in the wider cemetery visitors should come prepared for the possibility of inclement weather and wear sensible shoes. There is seating throughout the cemetery. We welcome dogs on a lead.
Participants should note that the event is taking place on a Sunday, a popular day for families to visit the cemetery.
