Step into 1300 Years of Architectural Heritage at Brixworth
This Heritage Open Days, come and discover one of England’s most remarkable architectural treasures – All Saints’ Church in Brixworth, a stunning example of Anglo-Saxon design and construction. Built in the 7th century, when Roman Britain had faded into legend and the Anglo-Saxon age was emerging, this iconic building is one of the largest surviving Anglo-Saxon churches in the country.
From its massive stone walls—crafted with local materials and reused Roman masonry—to its rare external stair-turret and the mysterious ring crypt in the east, the church offers a fascinating journey through more than a millennium of architectural evolution and religious devotion. Every element of its design tells a story, reflecting the skills, faith, and resilience of generations past.
Join us for a free guided tour of this extraordinary building and explore the hidden details and craftsmanship that have stood the test of time. Extend your visit with the Brixworth Heritage Trail, a 60-minute walking tour beginning at the church, offering insights into the village’s rich past.
Back at the nearby Heritage Centre, you’ll find homemade cakes and refreshments, lovingly prepared and served by The Friends of All Saints Church. Families can also enjoy a children’s scavenger hunt in the church and grounds—fun for all ages!
Celebrate history, support local heritage, and experience the architectural wonder that is Brixworth Church and village.
