All Saints stands on the market square in picturesque Helmsley. According to the 19th century wall-paintings in the north aisle, a church has been on this site since AD 200. The present building, built on Norman foundations, was dedicated in 1838.

All Saints Church is a beautiful church which dominates the centre of the town. It is Grade II listed, has a 10th century hog-back tombstone, and an entry in the Doomsday Book of 1086. The splendid chancel arc, one of the largest in Yorkshire, dates from the 12th century. The handsome building is the result of major restoration work in Victorian times led by Temple Moore and Scott Holland, with the stained glass and the murals from this period too.
For our HODs Festival there is a feast of activities:
All weekend 12 - 14 September 2025 renowned North Yorkshire artist Anna Matyus will be exhibiting her lovely prints of churches and abbeys in All Saints Church. A treat not to be missed!
On Saturday 13 September The SAPT's Gathering Architectural Trail finishes here at 4pm with a Service accompanied by the Bilsdale Silver Band.
All weekend The Lottery funded All Saints For All People Project's two Heritage Activities Officers will showcase development plans for the conservation and preservation of this church and its fine Edwardian wall paintings. Guided tours are arranged 11am on Saturday 13 September and 11am Sunday 14 September 2025. They plan to engage and involve new audiences and enable these to gain hands-on experience in the conservation process.
