Join Peter and Hillary Turton on a short walk around the East End of Sunderland and see the architectural gems still remaining in the area. These include the first purpose-built masonic lodge in the world, the original Trafalgar Square and buildings

Peter and Hilary are experienced and enthusiastic local historians who have designed this walk specifically for Heritage Open Days Festival 2025. The walk will start and end at Holy Trinity church, Old Sunderland and take in various local historical buildings and sites including the original Trafalgar Square, named in honour of the 76 sons of Sunderland present at the Battle of Trafalgar. The walk will also take in the Exchange Building and the Masonic Lodge, important heritage buildings that help tell the tale of Old Sunderland.
