Poynton Civic Hall, Poynton Civic Centre, Off Park Lane, Poynton, Cheshire, SK12 1RB
Enjoy this insight into 19th Century travels through the eyes of Marianne Brocklehurst, who was the daughter of a rich silk manufacturer and the other, her companion, Mary Booth.
The talk begins in the north at Alexandria on the Mediterranean Sea, the city of Alexander the Great, exploring the major sites.. Travelling South, we will stop and admire the last remaining wonder of the Ancient World, the iconic Pyramids of Giza, plus Saqqara where the first pyramid was built.
Our Cheshire ladies sailed the Nile by dahabiya, a traditional, elegant wooden sailing vessel used primarily on the Nile River in Egypt, and were historically used by wealthy travellers offering a unique way to explore the Nile's ancient sites and scenic landscapes, stopping to see the most famous sites of ancient Egypt.
Our journey will include Luxor, the largest archaeological site in the World. Exploring the temples of Luxor and Karnak on the East bank, dedicated to the god Amun and his family. Then crossing to the West bank, no visit would be complete without seeing the Valley of the Kings, where the magnificent treasures of Tutankhamun were discovered, but our ladies wouldn’t have seen them as they hadn’t yet been discovered.
Come and join us to discover the magic of Egypt!
