Anthony Salvin's Grantham Church - St John the Evangelist, Spitalgate
St John the Evangelist Church, Station Road East, Grantham, Lincolnshire, NG31 6HX
Built in 1840-41, shortly after Salvin had worked on Harlaxton Manor & had just completed the Grantham Savings Bank in Finkin Street; this church was extended in the 1880s. Salvin (1799-1881) was an architect who designed or modified hundreds of churches, stately homes, and humble dwellings. In Lincolnshire, he designed Denton Rectory, cottages etc for the Belton, Stoke Rochford & Easton estates.

Talk at 6.30pm on Friday 18 September - Grantham in the Second World War - by Dr John Manterfield, Local Historian. The town of Grantham was heavily bombed in WW2 especially in the vicinity of this church. World War 2 concert at 7.30pm on Friday 18 September - led by Helen Winter singers & choir members - free tickets through South Kesteven District Council Guildhall Arts Centre. General site opening from 10.00am to 4.00pm on Saturday 19 September with refreshments and display material.
