Heritage Open Day: Archaeology in Upper Teesdale.
Discover how people lived and used the landscape of Upper Teesdale over the last 10,000 years. Altogether Archaeology will exhibit recent finds from the area, with guided walks at 10:30 and talk at 13:30 each day.
At Wynch Bridge End Cottage (GR NY903278, route map available from Bowlees Visitor Centre), guided walks to be pre-booked (see below). Drop-in, Donations are welcome.

Access is available by prior arrangement with Natural England, and will involve vehicle sharing with Natural England Staff from Bowlees Visitor Centre. Wheelchair users will be able to access the restored cottage and garden, view exhibition and attend talk. Unfortunately the guided walk is unsuitable for wheelchairs due to terrain. Although not a part of Heritage Open Days, a 'Walk Through 10,000 Years' will be available. Sat. 20th and Sun. 21st September 10:30am-1pm. Join Altogether Archaeology on a 4-mile guided walk to see traces of how people have used the Teesdale landscape. Park at Bowlees Visitor Centre (DL12 0XF) at 10:30, meet Wynch Bridge End Cottage (GR NY903278). to set off at 11:00. Bring weatherproof clothing, good footwear and a packed lunch.
