Architecture - Langstone
Ship Inn Car Park, Langstone Road, Langstone, Havant, Hampshire, PO9 1RD
Following on from last years successful discovery of architecture in Havant Town we have again sought the knowledge of a local Architect, Jeremy Sayer of PWP Architects to tell us about the many interesting architectural aspects of this small mostly Georgian harbour. To augment this a display of interesting historical photographs, maps and drawings is available in the chapel and a noted local historian, Ann Griffiths who lives in the village, will lead a tour to examine some of the key features.
This lovely, popular harbour sees many visitors and the chapel features as a self guided visit attraction as part of Heritage Open Days but this special one-off event will open your eyes to more hidden aspects of the area and should encourage return visits.

the entrance to the chapel where the talk will take place has a high step - for flood protection - which makes wheelchair access complex and possibly impossible, however the tour is fully wheelchair accessable
This tour/talk is in 3 parts. The first part involves a tour and brief overview of interesting buildings, part two is a talk by a local architect and the third part is a display of old photographs and maps of the locality. The nearby Bridge, which opened in 1956, celebrated the Bicentennial (200 years) of the opening of the first Bridge on this site on 8th September 2024. Two local pubs and a very pleasant waterside stroll are close to the site which is situated in an attractive village, linked to the English Painter Flora Twot (1893 - 1985) & the novelist Neville Shute [Norway] (1899-1960
