ARNOLD BENNETT - Dudson Museum "Just Across the Road"

The Museum at the former Dudson Pottery works in Hope Street, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, is uniquely housed within a large bottle oven in the courtyard of the factory site. With viewing access facilitated by a rising stairway past exhibition cases and curling upwards to a main viewing gallery. There is ground-level viewing to displays from a circular walkway. Just across from the entrance is the café adjacent to a function room which we'll be using for discussions and screenings. There are performance areas and seating in the courtyard itself. On the first floor of the main building is an atrium area featuring a permanent display on Bennett created by the Arnold Bennett Society. We'll be investigating the ordinary and everyday activities of the working life and recreations of the local community through Bennett's perceptive eyes and remaining buildings and locations in the vicinity. Two performances of "Tea with Arnold Bennett" performed by Ray Johnson in the Café - 11.00am and 1.00pm - Bennett's relationship with the Potteries in his own words from his essays, journals, short stories and novels.

The Dudson Centre is at the lower end of Hope Street, walking away from Hanley Town Centre. It has a pay-and-display car park outside its main entrance.
