Art in the Barn - Landbeach Tithe Barn
2A Waterbeach Road, Landbeach, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, CB25 9FA
Tithe barns were built in the days when every peasant gave a tenth of his crops to the church, the contributions being stacked in the barn for winter threshing and storage. These barns were built wide, long, and tall, with thick walls to help preserve food over the winter. Once prolific across the UK, there are now only about 200 tithe barns left.
After undergoing restoration in 2019, the Tithe Barn in Landbeach has become a community space. The very vernacular timber frame and recently restored thatched roof prove to be an excellent location for live music performances, life drawing sessions and art exhibits!
This year, the Tithe Barn will host an exhibit of local artists on 12 and 13 September, from 10 am to 3pm. Come discover some amazing art, and learn about the barn's amazing history. There will be crafts and activities for children, plus the Tithe Barn offers tranquil views over pastures to the edge of Landbeach, so why not bring your own picnic to enjoy on the lawn? Light refreshments will be available.
