Born in Lowestoft, Suffolk, award-winning artist Mark Burrell has been creating art for over forty years and is a leading member of The North Sea Magical Realists. His work has appeared on television several times, including Anglia Television’s Moving Art, where he was interviewed by Sister Wendy Beckett and awarded first prize by Bill Oddie. Mark has exhibited nationally and internationally, with shows in London, New York, France, Norway and Holland, and his work is permanently displayed at the Ferini Art Gallery and the Maritime Museum in Lowestoft. Visitors are invited to explore his studio and galleries, featuring original paintings, sketches, greeting cards, books and limited-edition prints, and to experience the glowing, atmospheric magic realism for which his work is renowned. Blending imagination with direct observation, Burrell creates dreamlike fairgrounds, circus scenes and theatrical landscapes where past and present merge in a vivid celebration of the human condition. Also on display are the original Bertie by the Beach illustrations from Mark’s first written and illustrated children’s book.
