Northampton’s boot and shoe story in your headphones: from Market Square and St Crispin’s at All Saints to factory fronts, the Guildhall and the shoe museum at the old prison.

This self-guided audio walk starts in Northampton’s Market Square and follows the town’s boot and shoe streets through 14 stops, taking around 98 minutes of audio and about 168 minutes in total with walking. Put on headphones, open the route in the app and go at your own pace, pausing whenever you like. Along the way you will hear about the clickers, closers, factory whistles and shop-floor songs that shaped everyday working life in England’s shoemaking capital. The route links the open square where shoemakers organised against new machinery, St Crispin’s altar at All Saints, the cordwainer chapel where workers learned to organise, the former warehouse site that helped break the parlour trade, and later factory and social buildings including The Deco, GT Hawkins, Tricker’s, Crockett & Jones, Castle Hill URC, the Roadmender, the Guildhall and Northampton Museum and Art Gallery.
