A self-guided audio tour of Stoke-on-Trent, exploring the potters, kilnsmen, decorators and miners who fired the Six Towns.

This self-guided audio walk has 8 stops and begins at Stoke Minster. Follow the route in the app, listening as you walk between the church, the canal towpath, Town Hall, Spode Museum Trust, the North Stafford Hotel, Penkhull Square, the Herbert Minton Building and Stoke-on-Trent railway station.

The tour takes around 1 hour in total including the walk.

It traces the everyday labour that kept Stoke proper working: throwers and paintresses, flint-grinders and kiln-firers, the navvies who cut the canal, the boatmen who hauled cargo through Harecastle, and the railwaymen who moved finished ware across the country. Along the way, the route passes Potter’s Rot, workers’ housing in Penkhull Square, the named war dead on the North Staffordshire Railway memorial, and the memorial school linked to Herbert Minton’s workers’ skills. It is a walk through the streets and sites that made the Potteries world-famous, with the focus kept firmly on the people whose names rarely made the plaques.
