AudaTours Wolverhampton Audio Tour: Sweat and Shine
St Peter's Collegiate Church (Anglican), Wolverhampton, West Midlands, WV1 1RT
Follow a self-guided audio route through central Wolverhampton, starting at St Peter’s Collegiate Church and ending among streets, squares and landmarks linked to the city’s making. Use the app and headphones to walk at your own pace through 11 stops, with about 1 hour of audio and around 2 hours in total including the walk.
The route ties together very different kinds of work: the wool trade that helped pay for St Peter’s nave clerestory, the japanners who worked in open sheds, the lock-makers at their own benches, the varnish-makers who signed the first forty-hour week, the bricklayers who missed out on a bonus, and the two schoolboys handed a football by their headmaster before founding Wolverhampton Wanderers. You will also hear about Edward Bird’s start as a japanning apprentice, Harry Inscoe’s sixty years at the locksmith’s bench, and the young architects behind the Civic Hall competition. This is Wolverhampton told through labour, craft, sport and civic pride, with the names the plaques often leave out.

This is an outdoor, self-guided audio walking tour. The route follows public streets and pavements and does not include access to the interior of any of the sites — they are to be admired from the outside. Please wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.
You can start the tour whenever suits you during the festival and pause, resume or revisit it at any point — the route plays at your own pace from your phone. Once redeemed, the tour stays in your AudaTours library so you can come back to it any time. Headphones (or one earbud if walking with a companion) are recommended, and the tour works best in daylight hours.
