Bankfield Museum will be opening up to visitors on Sunday 8th September to give visitors to the area an opportunity to step inside the grand italianate mansion and enjoy the variety of its exhibitions programme: Fashion Extremes, located in the Fashion Gallery, on the upper floor, an exhibition that explores 250 years of fashion trends that go beyond what was practical, border on the exaggerated and make a bold statement; Tapestry of the North: Our Textile Heritage, developed by the British Tapestry Group; Transport, which explores how transport in Calderdale progressed from narrow pack horse trails to roads and railways, and how this helped transform the area into an industrial hub. Also within Bankfield Museum is the Duke of Wellington's Regiment Museum, and represents the history of the Regiment from 1702 as the 33rd Foot, to becoming part of the Yorkshire Regiment in 2006. Through displays of uniform, weapons, medals and equipment, the Museum tells the stories of the soldiers who served in their own words.
