At 15 Castle Hill you will find the charming 17th-century Cottage Museum. Many ordinary people have lived in this extraordinary building over the centuries. Come and discover who they were and what makes this tiny building so uniquely special.

Immerse yourself in the unique charm and rich history of 15 Castle Hill, the Cottage Museum. As you wander through its five compact floors, you'll discover stories from its earliest days and the people who called it home over the years.
Walk inside and feel right at home. ‘Sit thi deawn’ on the chairs, try on the hats, and discover interactive experiences that make history feel real. New for 2026 - Chat with our shopkeeper, take in the scents of rare and pricey spices, and learn what everyday shoppers purchased back in the 1700s, from ironmongery, candles, and lanterns to lavender, sugar, and tea.

Accessibility details

Physical accessibility at the Cottage is very limited. There are several historic features, which mean that while the Cottage remains authentic (such as uneven floors, dark areas and narrow winding staircases), but which also impede physical access for all. Audio guides and large print guides are available. Assistance dogs are welcome in the museum. We have NO toilets (or even running water!).
