New for 2026 - Chat with our shopkeeper, take in the scents of rare and pricey spices, and learn what everyday shoppers purchased back in the 1700s, from ironmongery, candles, and lanterns to lavender, sugar, and tea.

Physical accessibility at the Cottage is very limited. There are several historic features, which mean that while the Cottage remains authentic (such as uneven floors, dark areas and narrow winding staircases), but which also impede physical access for all. Audio guides and large print guides are available. Assistance dogs are welcome in the museum. We have NO toilets (or even running water!).
