Behind the Scenes at BACW: Ten Years of The British Archive for Contemporary Writing at UEA
The Library, The University of East Anglia, Suffolk Road, Norwich, Norfolk, NR4 7TJ
At the University of East Anglia, the home of the UK’s oldest Creative Writing MA programme and home of the world-renowned literary festival there lives a small archive packed with literary treasures. Nestled in the ground floor of Denys Lasdun's concrete architectural marvel, the Grade II listed Library, BACW is the writer’s archive. Collections include the papers of Nobel Prize winner Doris Lessing, global best sellers Lee Child and Naomi Alderman, innovative poets Joelle Taylor and Jay Bernard and beloved nature writers Roger Deakin and Mark Cocker. Lay your hands on original letters, manuscripts and other fascinating material relating to the writing life. This session will reveal the stories behind the stories and discuss what we are doing to save writers’ archives for future generations in BACW's tenth anniversary year.
