You are invited to come along to St Andrew’s Church, Halstead on September 19th , from 10.00am to 2.00pm. to hear a demonstration of bellringing, meet our ringers, and maybe have a go yourself in a safe, friendly environment. There’s lots to see and do:
• find out how to ring a bell
• our youngest ringer (aged 7) will demonstrate his bell ringing
. children can try handbell ringing
• climb up the spiral staircase to see the ropes,
• see the inside workings of the clock tower
• admire our gotch – a 17th century drinking pot that is (probably) the largest outside a museum and the Ellacombe – find out what that is when you come….
• Have a go yourself!

Organ recital

Halstead church and bell tower will be open on September 19th , from 10.00am to 2.00pm. Come and find out about the ancient art of bell ringing (our oldest bell was cast in 1380). You can also see displays from other craft and heritage groups in Halstead and enjoy home-made cake and biscuits. If you want to learn to ring we can teach you or put you in touch with a tower that is near you or practising at a time that is convenient for you.

Accessibility details

Most activities will take place in fully accessible places, though access to the Ringing Tower is by 43 steep, narrow stone steps. A reasonable level of fitness is required.

Additional information

There will be activities for all ages and abilities. As well as bell ringing visitors will also be able to find out about other societies in Halstead: and listen to a recital on the beautiful ‘Father Willis’ organ
