Beningbrough
Beningbrough Hall, Beningbrough, York, North Yorkshire, YO30 1DD
Head outdoors to see what's in season in the walled garden, stroll among luxurious borders and sit under the Pergola or in the Mediterranean Garden, the latest design in the long term developments by award winning Landscape Architect Andy Sturgeon. As the autumn harvest is starting, there will be apples and pears in abundance among many other varieties of fruit grown. Late colour is provided by dahlias and asters, especially along the South Border. Spot the first signs of trees taking on their golden tones as you explore further and look out to the parkland beyond.
The historic rooms on the ground floor are home to selected pieces of art and furniture representing the stories of the people of Beningbrough and their impact on the estate. Beningbrough was in part saved because of the architecture and craftsmanship of the hall, be sure to look up as you wander. See the latest exhibition in the first floor Reddihough Galleries - Whispers of the Wilderness: Exploring Wilderness Gardens.
Treat yourself in the walled garden restaurant to the latest seasonal dishes including produce from the garden. Drop by the stables shop to see ranges inspired by National Trust places, and others from local creatives and artists. There's a large outdoor shop and surplus plants and produce are available.
Families can follow the latest family trail or try to tick off 50 things to do before you're 11 3/4, build a den, or let off steam in the wilderness play area. Dogs are welcome except the hall.
