Beverley East Riding Theatre
East Riding Theatre, 10 Lord Roberts Road, Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire, HU17 9BE
Come and discover the architectural gem which is East Riding Theatre. Learn about its history and how community effort and hard work, by many Volunteers, led to a neglected Council building becoming the thriving Theatre and Café Bar that we have today.
This vibrant professional theatre and registered charity, opened its doors for the first time in December 2014, and the volunteer-led organisation has continued to deliver an eclectic programme of theatrical productions, music and entertainment. For Heritage Open Day 2026, the theatre will open its doors (free of charge) for visitors to see this amazing building up-close. Volunteers will tell you about its construction, its former uses, the story behind its transformation and what secrets the building holds that are hidden from view!
Before or after your visit to the theatre, you may like to download the Time Traveller’s Theatre Trail, our guided tour through Beverley’s theatrical past. As you walk through our wonderful town with this Audio Guide you will discover the site of the first theatre in Beverley, learn about popular entertainment in the Middle Ages, and hear about the infamous wife sale in Saturday Market. The Trail takes in 12 locations and at each stopping point will be immersed in an Audio Drama bringing to life events that occurred on that very spot. Simply download the free ‘Places and Trails’ App from your store, and click on the North of England link to start the Time Traveller’s Theatre Trail.
