Beyond the Ruins - The Architecture of St Benet's Abbey

Ludham Bridge (layby near the toilets), Ludham, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, NR29 5NX

  • 21 Sep 2025
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

Starting at Ludham Bridge, walk along the River Ant towards the remains of St Benet's Abbey. On route learn about the wildlife and then hear about the architectural history of the St Benet's area.

The day will start by meeting at the lay-by near Ludham Bridge. As we all walk along the River Ant one of the knowledgeable volunteers from Norfolk Wildlife Trust and the Broads Authority will help you understand the surroundings and any recognise any wildlife that we see. Onwards towards St Benet's Abbey, and our walk leader will take you through the architectural story of the Abbey and those that have impacted it. The tour will finish by returning to the start point either together or at your own pace - you might take your time and enjoy a packed lunch.

The pathways are not completely level, and there is a steeper section as you leave Ludham. Please wear strong footwear and plan your clothing with the weather in mind.
If you have binoculars, they are a really good idea in such a wildlife-filled area in the Norfolk Broads.
