Do you have a passion for amazing architecture and fascinating theatrical history? The Grand will be opening the doors to the glorious Grade II* listed building for all to come in and marvel at the breathtaking interior on Thursday 18 September, Friday 19 September and Saturday 20 September. Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to be given unrivalled access to Frank Matcham’s masterpiece, which is not normally open for the public to view at their leisure.
Please note – this is not a guided tour but is an incredible opportunity to step inside and gaze in wonder as they observe the cantilevered tiers or circles, boxes and pit – and the complete visibility of every seat in this atmospheric house. Visitors will revel in the stunning scenery in the theatre’s spectacular auditorium, which was meticulously crafted by flamboyant architect Frank Matcham and opened on the 23rd of July 1894 at a time when theatre building and Matcham's work were at their height.
There will also be two FREE 30-minute tours on offer each day for a maximum of 20 people which MUST be booked in advance:
- Thursday 18 September tours are at 10.30am & 11.30am
- Friday 19 September at 5.30pm & 6.30pm
- Saturday 20 September at 10.30am & 11.30am

PDA - access into theatre’s box office at the front of the building. There are several stairs (railings on both sides of stairs) and also an accessible lift for wheelchairs etc leading from the box office down to the auditorium. Level access is available to the auditorium via Matcham’s Bar at the rear of the theatre. The stalls area is fully accessible (the floor is sloped). The stage/stalls areas are fully accessible; other seating areas/levels are reached via stairs. Please make yourself known to box office before entering the auditorium if booked on a guided tour.
