Blacksmith Forge Demonstration

Nestled next to Dobson Staircase Locks on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, the forge forms part of the larger, Grade II Listed canal workshop. The forge is complete with fireplace, bellows, chimney and is surrounded by original canal paraphernalia.

David, our blacksmith, will be carrying out practical demonstrations in the traditional craft of blacksmithing for visitors to observe and will be happy to answer your questions about his techniques in this wonderful heritage skill. Prepare to be mesmerised! You might even get to admire a narrowboat or two ascending the locks as you watch!

Please book one time slot per person. Please arrive no more than 15 minutes before your booked slot. Learn more about history of our waterways . Walk ins will not be accepted. If you can no longer attend, please cancel your ticket via Eventbrite or please get in touch with us to allow another person(s) a chance to take part. Social distancing measures will be in place and all equipment will be cleaned in between sessions.
