Have you ever wondered what happens to your recycling once it has picked up from your home in Cornwall? Or wondered why we ask you to sort some of your recycling at home?
The Bodmin materials recycling facility (MRF), is one of two MRFs in Cornwall which sorts, screens and bales your recycling, ready to be sold on and be made into new products.
The facility was substantially upgraded in 2023 when the new service, food waste recycling, was rolled out in Cornwall. With new sorting technology, new infrastructure and a new service delivering more recycling for Cornwall.
You will be able to see how the recycling trucks empty each compartment of recycling, the sorting machine and process which separates your mixed red bag of recycling into the separate materials (plastic, aluminum and steel).
The visit is expected to last around 1 hour; it will include a short induction, a tour of the facility and a chance to speak to our team. Please arrive 10 minutes early to ensure a prompt start to the tour.
Please be aware that the tour involves some walking and stairs. The tour is not suitable for people with mobility issues or vertigo. For safety reasons children under 7 years old are not permitted on the tour.

For safety reasons children under 7 years old are not permitted on the tour. Our machinery will be turned off, however, there are powerful magnets on site. If you have a pacemaker, please make this known to a member of staff when you arrive. Visitors are required to wear fully enclosed shoes such as trainers or walking boots. Sandals, flip flops and heeled shoes are not permitted. Animals are not permitted on site.
