We invite you to visit our beautiful school, including George Hall, frescoes, and the historical school archives.

Bournville Village Primary School, a cornerstone of Bournville's educational heritage, is proudly participating in the 2025 Bournville Heritage Open Day on Saturday, 13th September. This event offers a unique opportunity for visitors to explore the school's rich history and architectural significance, as well as our vast school archives.

Architectural and Historical Significance

Constructed between 1902 and 1905, the school was designed by architect William Alexander Harvey and stands as a testament to the Cadbury family's commitment to education for all. The Grade II-listed building showcases Arts and Crafts design elements, featuring red brick with stone dressings. Visitors are invited to admire the central hall, illuminated by dormer windows and adorned with frescoes painted in 1914 muralist and suffragist Mary Sargant Florence and illustrator Mary Creighton McDowall. These frescoes depict biblical scenes, and the hall's intricate wood carvings are the work of sculptor Benjamin Creswick.

This event is part of the broader Bournville Heritage Open Day, which features various historic venues across the village, celebrating the area's unique architectural and cultural legacy.
